PortMiami sits across from Miami’s soaring skyline and south of scenic Biscayne Bay. The sprawling port is connected to the city via Port Boulevard and is easily accessible from any destination in and around Miami. Interstates 95 and 395 are less than five minutes away, and Miami International Airport is about a ten-minute drive from the port. Moving from Terminal F, MSC Cruises will sail out of a newly designed Terminals AA/AAA in 2024. Carnival’s ships are based at Terminals D and E, and the newly renovated Terminal F from 2022. Norwegian Cruise Line operates out of Terminals B and C, while the new Terminal K will be the base for Disney Cruise Line.
Formerly known as Terminal H, Terminal V is planned as an exclusive terminal dedicated to Virgin Voyages. It will become a fully automated “One-stop shop” for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) services. This facility is designed to look like a boutique to cater to discerning high-end cruisers who are looking for more personal service. This terminal meets LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification standards for green ratings at a total investment cost of $7 million.
It will have 2 berths to serve MSC Cruises who are financing, building, operating, and maintaining this terminal to use as a homeport for their future fleet. Taxi services are readily available from FLL along with ridesharing apps, especially Uber and Lyft. If you've rented a car instead, please see directions by car "Getting There by Car" above. If you're taking a cab to the Miami cruise port on the day of your sailing, your driver will need to follow signs for your ship's terminal after entering the port. Specific drop-off locations are designated at each terminal, and each terminal has its own designated taxi area. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line recently completed new cruise terminals.
By the April 2018-signed agreement, NCLH guarantees Miami-Dade a minimum of 1,3 million passengers annually. Until 2018, RCI represented annual capacity 0,8 million passengers (~15% of the Port's overall traffic). With the new terminal, this capacity was expected to increase to ~2 million. The new terminal building (nicknamed 'Crown of Miami') serves exclusively RCCL/RCG-Royal Caribbean Group-owned ships.
The trolley drops off at the port every 15 to 20 minutes from early until mid-evening all days except Sunday. All parking locations accept cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and major U.S. As per the terms of the project, the Company will construct two new docks measuring 2,461 ft. in total. MSC will build two of the docks and Miami-Dade County will construct the third. MSC has tapped Fincantieri Infrastructure to build the facility, which is being designed by global architecture firm Arquitectonica. MSC Cruises has broken ground on a $350 million terminal in PortMiami to make it a space where its most environmentally friendly ships will eventually be able to refuel and charge up.
On November 28, 2018, Richard Branson (Virgin Group's Founder) and Tom McAlpin (Virgin Voyages' President and CEO) officially announced the plans for a new/exclusive cruise terminal in PortMiami. The facility incorporates PortMiami's existing terminals B and C into a single/new "Terminal B". In July 2018, Miami-Dade County and MSC signed an agreement for extended preferential berthing rights and MoU for building a new "Cruise Terminal AAA" at PortMiami (company's exclusive homeport in the USA). Carnival Terminal F's renovations officially started on January 29, 2021 (with the groundbreaking ceremony) and are scheduled for completion by October 2022. Terminal F's groundbreaking was attended by Christine Duffy (CCL's President) and Daniella Levine Cava (Miami-Dade Mayor), along with construction companies representatives and county commissioners.
The required minimum number of ship calls (per fiscal year) is 45, which is 15 more than the previous agreement. The plans for the new Royal Caribbean terminal were approved by Miami's Board of County Commissioners on July 7, 2016. Under the agreement, RCCL fully financed the construction, except US$15M that PortMiami paid for infrastructure/road works.
The new agreement extended the old (Saturdays) preferential berthing rights to Sundays as well. Transatlantic crossings from Europe to Florida usually depart from the UK (Southampton, Dover, Harwich) or Mediterranean (Barcelona, Civitavecchia-Rome, Piraeus-Athens) and often stop in Bermuda (Kings Wharf). In March 2018, NCLH unveiled details on NCL's exclusive new Cruise Terminal B scheduled for completion in 2019 (read more in the port's "Terminal" section). MSC World America will set sail on her maiden voyage from Miami on April 12, 2025. That first cruise is a 7-night Eastern Caribbean sailing that will visit the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve. MSC Cruises has also revealed that the event will include a variety of immersive onboard events to highlight the ship’s features.
Currently, the largest cruise terminal in the United States is Royal Caribbean’s $250 million Terminal A, which opened at PortMiami at the end of 2018. It was designed by London-based Broadway Malyan with Bermello Ajamil & Partners serving as architect of record. The new $350 million terminal at PortMiami, the largest passenger port in the world, will help MSC Cruises further expand its already-growing presence in North America. As announced earlier this month, the company’s MSC Meraviglia will begin sailing year-round from New York City in April 2023. The company’s newest flagship vessel, the MSC Seashore, is already based at PortMiami and a second mega cruise liner, the MSC Seascape, will be delivered at the end of this year according to the Miami Herald. It is due for completion in late 2021 at an estimated cost of $180 million.
